in all my born days
i have never laughed so hard. my head still hurts more than 24 hours afterwards. what a fun weekend. nay, what a fun WEEK! being on the farm, being in amish country indiana, yeah. methinks it was just what i needed. and mind you, they were not just "screaming, flying monkeys" as they were last year. they are screaming, flying, AMISH monkeys. irreverent, yes. and for that i apologize. but it was hilarious to the max.

deadliest catch
okay...so tonight was the season opener for deadliest catch. i watched it and LOVED it. (as usual.) i wrote on my facebook that i was going to watch it and my friend amy (from college) told me her brother was the pastor who gave the bering sea blessing before all the fishing vessels from deadliest catch started their season. (her brother is dan; he is actually my age and was in my class @ eastern.) i miss them both. but it was really cool that amy mentioned that dan was on this episode; i may not have looked so closely otherwise. he shaved his head since i saw him last but otherwise looks the same.
CRAZY!!!
before the show i ran out to chesterton (from laporte where i'm staying) because my friend's 3-year-old locked her closet door shut. and they couldn't figure out how to get the door open. funny, though, it's just a closet door but it was a sturdy one AND had an actual LOCK on it. so we banged out the hinge pins (that what they're called?!) and just took the door off.
what an eventful evening!

rear view mirror
not in a long time have i watched what was behind me in my outside rear-view mirror. as i drove from valpo to laporte today, the sunset was pretty amazing. i decided to take a pic with my cell phone but that really didn't do it any justice. (as you can tell.) but it was a sweet sunset. you'll have to take my word. (and for any of you who know the route between valpo & laporte fairly well--route 2--this is right at pinhook, where the road goes by a church & cemetery and heads northwest instead of just west.)
but i have to say, this is also the time of day the most picked on deer gets to be the dummy to go see if any cars are coming so any random bunch can cross the road. well...tonight i saw the dummy deer come out to the road and it actually looked both ways. yes. it really did. and after it saw me coming, it still stepped forward onto the shoulder of the road. (hence the name "dummy" i suppose.) but after it somehow got spooked, it ran back to the others who were only about 10-15 feet behind and they ran off. i thought there were only 3 or 4. but then i looked again and saw a LOT more than that.
glad the deer decided not to play chicken tonight. at least with me.

YIKES.
so i have a new website...well, actually the domain name has been mine for years but i've decided to finally publish to it. and on my homepage i said that i'd update my blog. oh dear. so here's my first post in a long time. hopefully life will get more interesting and i'll be able to have something halfway interesting to write about.
so for now, i'm back. we shall soon see what my material will be.
hope everyone's well.
btw, the picture is of chicago from about 5,000 feet. my friend's a pilot and took this cool shot. hmmm...so who's flying the plane, eh? tsk, tsk.
